The Croydon Brass Band was founded in 1962 from the remains of the Lilydale and Ferntree Gully Bands.

It's first Bandmaster was Mr. Ralph Williamson and was the only local band up until 1971. The band is a traditional English Brass Band and has moved in grading over the years from B to D grade.

With a recent resurgence in membership the band hopes to once again compete in brass band contests in Victoria.

The band has always been a keen marching group under the direction of Drum Major, Ian Douglas. It continues to be the only marching brass band in the area.

The Musical Director

The Musical Director is Ken McColm. Ken teaches music at Bimbadeen Heights Primary School and works tirelessly for the band and its members. Ken also conducts the Croydon Variety Band and Junior Band.

In days past Ken was a member of the Staffband of the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers in the U.K.. He has now been conducting the Brass and Variety Bands for four years.

The Croydon Brass Band is the only Marching Band in the local area!
