The Croydon Variety Band was originally formed as a training band for the Wind Symphony.

It has long since passed this stage and evolved into a band in it's own right. The band does not compete in competitions preferring to play as many performances each year as possible.

Its aim is to provide a fun and enjoyable atmosphere in which to train its members. Currently the band has a membership of over twenty five players.

Under the direction of Ken McColm the band has flourished.

The Musical Director

The Musical Director is Ken McColm. Ken teaches music at Bimbadeen Heights Primary School and works tirelessly for the band and its members. Ken also conducts the Croydon Brass Band and Junior Band

In days past Ken was a member of the Staffband of the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers in the U.K.. He has now been conducting the Brass and Variety Bands for four years.
